Keep Gettin Up


This sample-heavy tune is a little different from what we’ve posted thus far. I’ve been thinking about the early Prince Paul school of production a lot lately, where he’d layer a lot familiar samples for his tracks; a step up in complexity from most hip hop productions, while a step below all out “cut-and-paste” craziness….the clear (and lost) ancestor to the “mashup” but with a lot more class.

The samples for this one vary from Q-Tip (by way of Black Ivory) to Jesse Rose to Keni Burke to Ray Barretto covering Stevie Wonder, with a few other for good measure…..
