If, for some crazy reason, you were to combine Ludachrist’s ferocious “MARTA Girl” (which brilliantly samples the disturbing video above) and Jakwob’s bonkers “Wild Pitch,” this would be the preposterous result:
We’ve recently been working on some edits and blends with my longtime buddy and DJ extraordinaire Jason Smith (peep his Soundcloud here). While looking to connect Lady Gaga’s “Alejandro” to the song that most likely inspired it, Madonna’s “La Isla Bonita”, we somehow threw L-Vis 1990’s “Compass” into the mix, unintentionally Moombahton‘d it, liked what we were hearing and went with it.
Since Part 2 of the “Why Can’t We Be Blends” series (see introduction here) is coming soon, I thought I’d drop a little refresher via one of my prouder moments from the first volume. It pairs Cherrelle & Alexander O’Neal’s classic “Saturday Love” with Romeo Erotic’s beautiful remix of Starpoint’s “Wanting You”.
1. Shoulda Let You Go (Eli Escobar Remix) - Keyshia Cole (+) Changes (Larry Levan Mix) - Imagination
2. Set It Off - Strafe (+) Part 1 - LCD Soundsystem
3. Do It To The Music - Raw Silk (+) Nasty - JR FLO (remix of Nas’ “Memory Lane”)
4. On A Day Like Today (Todd Terje Edit) - Gichy Dan (+) Declaration Instrumental - De La Soul
5. Saturday Love - Cherrelle & Alexander O’Neal (+) Wanting Love (Romeo Erotic Remix) - Starpoint
Here’s a blend pairing Risk One’s nasty Bmore edit of Crystal Water’s “100% Pure Love” with Fake Blood’s now classic remix of Little Boots’ “Stuck On Repeat”…..I came across the connection while spinning one night and after a botched attempt of pulling it off live, I did what any self respecting person would do in 2010….use a computer!
Also, True Blood’s an amazing show and I’m amped for season 3 which starts in June…..the superficial link between that factoid and the blend was enough for me to give it a shout.
